Fire protection systems
for thatched roofs.
We install a range of proven fire protection systems designed to improve the fire resistance of thatched roofs, in line with current Building Control guidance and industry best practice.
The right solution will depend on the property, roof construction, and whether the work forms part of a new build, re-thatch, or repair. Our approach is to specify the most appropriate system for each project, ensuring effective protection without compromising the performance or breathability of the roof.
In the event of a fire, the outer thatch layer is typically considered sacrificial. The purpose of these systems is to help protect the structure beneath and slow the spread of fire, providing valuable time and reducing risk to the property.
Thatch Firewall (LFB60)
Thatch Firewall is a lightweight fire barrier system installed between the thatch and the rafters. It is designed to provide an additional layer of protection to the structure of the building.
Specification:
- Classified to BS476 Part 3 (2004) – EXT.S.CA
- Glass-fibre core with polyurethane polymer coating
- Contains micronised aluminium for enhanced performance
Key Benefits:
- Provides up to 1 hour fire barrier
- Lightweight and straightforward to install
- Water resistant
- Strong and durable
- Breathable construction
- Flexible for use across roof structures
Thatch Fireboard
Thatch Fireboard is a magnesium silicate board used to provide enhanced fire resistance, alongside additional thermal and acoustic benefits.
